Software Development Manager
Our award-winning client, is a VPaaS (Video Platform as a Service) provider with a strong track record of creating innovative video streaming solutions for clients such as News UK, PBS America, and CBS Catchup. Their AWS-hosted platform simplifies complex video streaming workflows, enabling efficient management, distribution, monetisation, and analysis of live and on-demand video content worldwide.
As Software Development Manager, you'll be at the forefront of delivering cutting-edge solutions across a range of platforms, including Apple, Android, Roku, Hybrid TV, Web, and more. You'll oversee the entire software development function, leading a team of 12 in-house developers and work with external resources.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership and software architecture expertise across all development disciplines.
Collaborate with Scrum Masters and the wider Delivery team to manage work allocation and prioritise tasks.
Foster a culture of Continuous Professional Development to help each team member maximise their potential.
Establish and enforce best practices to improve the quality of code and deliverables.
Work closely with the QA team to integrate automated testing into the development process.
Manage releases to production effectively, especially for backend work.
Lead hiring efforts for new developers and ensure they align with company culture and values.
Essential Capabilities and Experience:
Demonstrable experience in a similar development management role.
Proven software development experience using PHP, HTML, and JavaScript.
Proven track record of motivating and maximizing team performance.
Strong understanding of release management best practices, especially for backend and APIs.
Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Desired Capabilities and Experience:
Familiarity with Tailwind, Alpine, Laravel, and Livewire.
Experience with React-based application development.
Background in developing applications for Apple, Android, Roku, and connected TV platforms.
Understanding of video streaming and/or the media sector.
Hybrid working pattern: 2 days per week in the office (Weds & Thurs)
