Location: Baca College Loughborough(may be required to travel to all locations where Baca deliver young peoples services)

Hours: 20 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Salary Band:£24,150 to £27,760 per annum pro rata. Equivalent to £12,880 to £14,805 per annum for 20 hours a week.

Overall Purpose

To provide a dynamic and inspirational education programme that will provide young people with the understanding and language skills required to adapt to life in the UK and prepare them for further study so they can be inspired to have hope for a better future.

Duties & Responsibilities

Delivering ESOL English, Maths and ICT education to young people within Baca in a creative and interesting way to allow them to reach a standard of education where they can access courses at a local college.

Assisting in the support of volunteers to lead one to one or group education intervention sessions with the young people.

Directing Learning Support Assistants (paid or voluntary) within the classroom to best support the learning needs of the students.

Contribute to on-going planning, review and development of curriculum programmes to ensure lessons and schemes of work are meeting the needs of the young people and the requirements of exam boards.

Ensure that agreed expectations of partner organisations are met in delivering high quality teaching and as part of the role.

Be proactive in recognising and adapting to learner needs and work with the team to develop appropriate responses to support these.

Develop and maintain excellent communication with all members of the team and all external partners and supporters to provide holistic development support for each young person enabling them to become independent.

Maintaining student records on attendance and progress and contributing to education reports.

General

Be adept in employing the correct procedures for dealing with any safeguarding incidences or concerns, in line with Bacas Child, Vulnerable Adult Protection & Safeguarding Policy.

Be a role model, leading by example in practicing the Values of Baca.

Support the delivery of the following outcomes in line with Bacas Theory of Change through the teaching role, ensuring it is of the highest quality: Improved Physical Wellbeing, Improved Emotional Wellbeing, Increased engagement with Education, Employment and Training, Increased Social engagement and Increased Personal Safety.

Take ownership of all administrative aspects of the role.

Maintain strict confidentiality in relation to work undertaken and ensure all confidential material is stored according to Bacas Confidentiality statement and Data Protection Policy.

Treat all staff and young people fairly and without prejudice, in line with Bacas Equality and Diversity policy.

Adhere to all Bacas policies and procedures.

Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, in line with the needs of the team.

Personal specification

Baca is looking for a teacher who can proactively participate in Bacas holistic and therapeutic young people services. The young people supported by us are refugees aged 16 to 18, some of whom are victims of trafficking. The successful applicant will have the ability to ensure the education we provide to the young people is of the highest quality and strives for excellence. They will play an active role in developing knowledge and understanding in areas relevant to the role and especially in the areas of teaching students who may have been trafficked or exploited, emotional wellbeing of separated children, and the cultures of different nations.

They will be passionate about our work and be able to lead by example in building an empowering environment to enable each young person to be their best, being both a supportive leader and one that brings challenge where necessary. They will be a great people person who can engage with key external relationships and work well with the staff team, linking in with the culture of family that exists within the organisation. The successful applicant will have the ability to ensure the project plan is followed in line with Bacas vision, values and strategic goals. This is a frontline role that will need the successful applicant to be working closely with young people in their houses from time to time. The role will require the successful candidate to complete an enhanced DBS check.

Qualifications and Experience

Teaching experience is essential including lesson planning and developing schemes of work.

A teaching qualification is desirable.

Willingness to work towards a CELTA qualification (if you do not hold a relevant qualification).

Experience of working with young people, on a 1-2-1 and group setting.

Professional understanding of safeguarding within an education setting.

Understanding of inclusion and differentiation strategies for engaging all learners.

Knowledge and understanding of what motivates young people and inspire creativity in learning.

Excellent personal organisation and?high attention to detail.

Ability to write reports, keep accurate records and communicate effectively

Ability to manage multiple tasks any one-time, prioritising workload to meet competing deadlines

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory DBS check.
