Overview of Role:
Responsible for producing professional CAD drawings, structural and system designs, and engineering drawings for our customers and internal departments/practice teams.
Delivering drawing packages during concept and detailed design phases through to fabrication. Typically working as a stand-alone draughtsperson as part of a multi-disciplined team of design and engineering professionals.
Projects cover, but not limited to, ship design (e.g. passenger vessels, tankers, bunker barges), ship to shore interface / access infrastructure and offshore energy infrastructure.
This role provides a wide variety of work across the entire organisation, working across multiple teams and projects.
A majority of the work will be working on the initial and concept designs with a smaller proportion of the activity working on enhancements.
Key Responsibilities and duties:
Translate design concepts and sketches into 3D models, develop those models into technical drawings and visual representations using Solidworks.
3D modelling of vessels and the production of photo realistic rendering of these, using Solidworks Visualise.
Extensive production, management, and usage of digital media.
Production of high-quality 2D ship drawings using AutoCAD, including General Arrangements, Structural Drawings, Schematics and Safety Plans
Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure that products meet design and engineering specifications.
Oversight and active participation in project work including the creation of innovative solutions and their presentation to clients or Project Managers.
Knowledge, compliance and dissemination of industry Draughting standards and techniques.
Awareness of current developments in software, CAD skills and related training opportunities.
To maintain company records including drawing register, filing system, drawing block library and PDM/Vault.
Assist Company sales activities preparing drawings & images.
Promote all aspects of the Company to clients.
Skills/experience:
Proven experience working as a CAD Technician, within the marine industry. Will have a number of years’ experience and the interest/ability to continue developing this experience under the supervision of the CAD Manager
Proven Solidworks and PDM/Vault proficiency, having used these tools consistently for 1 to 3 years minimum and involving 2D and 3D outputs.
Solidworks Certification Program awards considered.
Able to provide a portfolio to illustrate experience of rendering and developing these types of models
Proven 2D AutoCAD proficiency, minimum of 3 years.
City and Guilds qualifications considered.
BTEC Level 4 Mechanical Engineering preferred as a minimum, other qualifications and time served will be considered.
