Job title - Head chef
Location - school
Hours - 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday during school term time - no evening or weekend work.
There is the possibility of additional work during school holiday periods.
Our client is looking for a talented head chef to join the team who has experience with high volume cooking on a daily basis. They are a small team catering for 300 meals a day in an oxford school. The menu is mainly a fresh food menu and is on a 3-week rotation.
Responsible for:
*Fresh food dishes with a focus on long term better eating habits
*Stock ordering, site financials and budgetary responsibility.
*Overseeing the kitchen.
*5 * scores on the doors
*Staff training, development and learning
*Ensure all meals are exceptionally well presented and look appetizing and prepared in accordance with standards, recipe specifications and food safety legislation
*Maintain a clean kitchen whilst adhering to health & safety standards and following safety guidance for all equipment
*Adhere to all food hygiene & safety standards
*Assist the School Manager with menu selection and design
Additional Duties:
*Recording food temperatures
*Adhere to all H&S policies and working practice
*Compliance to all school policies and procedures
*Safeguarding
*Assist with marketing e.g. social media, menu's etc
To be successful you must have the following skills and attributes
*Previous head chef experience ( ideally in a school)
*Clean and tidy appearance
*Adhering to a food budget
*Stock ordering
*A track record of reaching targets and deadlines including stock control
*Menu planning and possess a passion for healthy food and creative flair, responsible for cooking and menu planning
*Experience of running a smooth and efficient catering service and able to identify further sales opportunities
*Great understanding of health and safety and food compliance
*Strong people management skills and is confident to manage performance through the day to day operation
*Working well under pressure to deliver meals on time and comfortable in a very flexible, fast paced working environment.
Desirable:
*Marketing experience and creative ideas such as specials, dish of day etc
*Desire to making a positive social impact e.g. cookery classes/ club
*A positive can-so attitude
*Enjoys motivating and developing a team by promoting strong working relationships
Essential Experience:
* Good standard of written and spoken English
* Hospitality & Catering/Management Level 3 or similar
Desirable Experience:
*Demonstrable experience of enhancing quality and numbers in a catering setting
*City & Guilds Level 2 Principles of Nutrition
*Willingness to undertake a minimum of two training courses per year in an area of your/the schools choice
