As a senior electronics design engineer, you will be developing cutting edge electronics and firmware for new, and existing products and bespoke customer specific applications across all our product lines. Workload can vary from creating electronics for new product design to meet client or internal specifications through to supporting an existing client’s request to upgrade or change a system in the field.
You will also be involved in the continual improvement of the functionality, reliability, and manufacturability of existing products. Daily tasks will include electronic circuit development, microcontroller programming, software development, acceptance testing and generation and review of technical documentation.
You will be a key member of a small R&D team of dedicated and enthusiastic electronic/firmware and mechanical development engineers. So will have the opportunity and challenge to define, refine and improve our range of products and procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Design of new products from concept to in field introduction with an emphasis on simplicity of operation, reliability, and manufacturability.
Developing circuit schematics, simulations and PCB layouts.
Microcontroller and DSP programming.
Providing engineering support to the existing product range.
ATEX/IECEx/UKEx accreditation of relevant products.
Assessing technical queries and provide engineering solutions to a wide-ranging products portfolio.
Participate in the company’s Innovation Ideas capture and Ideation process.
Liaising with internal departments such as Sales, Procurement, Projects and Production to ensure the best technical solution is provided in all instances.
Creating & maintaining engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, test plans, reports and manuals.
Ensuring engineering solutions are provided on time and to budget.
Maintaining and developing company standards and processes for design & development.
To be responsible for delivering your set of objectives and to report progress on the delivery of these as agreed with your manager.
To document & report any issues or recommend any improvements to existing products & to identify the reason(s) why.
To comply with company and departmental QA & HSE procedures and processes.
Skills & Experience:
Analog electronics design and development experience.
Digital Signal Processing design and development experience.
Extensive experience with high level development languages – preferably one or more of C++, and C.
Microcontroller C and assembly
Operating systems: Windows
Understanding of sensors, data gathering and distribution of data to various sources.
Wireless comms e.g. Bluetooth, LoRaWAN, IoT, LTE
Wired comms e.g. Ethernet, USB, RS 485, MODBUS, HART, I2C
Qualifications
Electronic/Electrical engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
10+ years of professional experience in electronics & firmware development.
Having worked in a Research & Development environment is desirable.
Hours
Normal working hours are 35 hours per week Monday to Friday with 30 minutes for lunch (unpaid).
The Company allows flexibility with the core time from 09:30 -15:00.
Employees may accrue a maximum of 7 hours (one full day) per timesheet period month and take this as flexitime TOIL (Time Off In Lieu).
3 days in office & 2 days at home.
Holidays
The annual leave year runs from 1st January to 31st December.
Your holiday entitlement is 28 days per complete leave year.
8 days of your annual leave are fixed for public holidays
Holiday Entitlement increases by one (1) additional day for each years completed service as of 1st January up to a maximum of four (4) additional days.
