Job Role: Surveying Manager
Location: South Coast – Southampton, Bournemouth, Portsmouth
Hours: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week

The role is responsible for formulating and executing a strategy in conjunction with the director of surveying, and leading the surveying team on the south coast.
There is a degree of management required of teams, and a business development function. The role requires leadership, coaching and development direct reports, as well as good communication to the exec. team.
Main Purpose of Job
Leading a successful revenue generating team of surveyors that significantly contributes to the overall success of Building Solutions Group and Innovus.
Imparting technical knowledge and experience across your team, that positively benefits our clients and customers alike.
Engaging with the wider business to promote the internal Surveying capability and identify business opportunities.
Position in Organisation
This role reports to the Director of Surveying and has a team of up to 8 direct reports.
Main Responsibilities
Provide leadership and management to NOW Chartered Surveyors teams, fostering a collaborative and high performance work environment, which focusses on service growth and business development.
Help to mentor and develop staff, encouraging professional growth and skill enhancement.
Technical expertise – maintain a high level of technical expertise in surveying methodology’s tools and technologies, ensure that the team is equipped with the latest tools and resources.
Ensure membership of the RICS and registered valuer status is maintained.
Ensure that targets are met for both yourself and your team, aiming for 4 points a day or the equivalent.
Managing the output, content and quality of a regional team of Surveyors including 1-2-1 discussions and local team meetings.
Building the activity pipeline in conjunction with the Surveying admin team, through regular interaction with the admin team and surveying team
Accountable for the financial output of the team, ensuring income targets are achieved and productivity exceeds 80%. Supporting the Surveying Admin team in building the monthly financial billing and performance report which includes Work-In-Progress and non-billable activity.
Undertaking surveying activity which contributes to the individual and team revenue targets including:
Valuations
Surveys up to Level 3,
defect diagnosis and preparation of reports for clients.
surveying properties and preparing specifications of works, engaging with consultants and regulatory authorities as needed together with on-site delivery management.
Identify and support potential business opportunities outside of existing clients and assist the Director of Surveying in obtaining new business with external clients.
Actively contribute to the strategic direction of the Surveying team as a member of the leadership team
Manage and lead the regular Surveying team meetings in conjunction with any other Surveying Managers and organise appropriate CPD topics for inclusion in the meetings.
Support and develop graduate and recently qualified surveyors. Act as final approving authority for technical reports in line with professional guidelines.
Develop new or improved products, processes, to grow the business and improve Surveying Delivery output.
Areas of Responsibility/Accountability
This role covers one of several regional residential surveying delivery teams across the UK.
Key Interfaces
Panel Managers, estate agents and team members.
Business to Business Interfaces through business growth.
External businesses and organisations, in particular key customers and clients
Qualifications
Obtained appropriate level of technical qualification (e.g. Degree / HND) in Surveying or other building related subject, plus professional experience having attained MRICS or similar level of professional qualification.
Experience
Substantial technical surveying experience in the surveying environment with a wide range of building types
Demonstrable sucessful project delivery experience managing contractors and consultants as required.
Sound commercial understanding of a surveying ‘practice’ and ability to clearly articulate commercial performance with senior managers
Experience and willingness to build realtionships with team to identify and drive improvement opportunities.
An in depth understanding of the issues and regualtions that apply to surveying and project delivery.
Significant understanding of the Residential Property Sector and Regulatory knowledge eg.CDM.
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stake holders, at all levels within the business.
Technical Skills
Survey and project delivery skills.
Knowledge of RICS residential suite of products
Understanding of building structure and pathology
Qualifications and Experience
Relevant degree and membership or fellowship of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
At least 5 years technical delivery experience.
Appropriate IT skills.
Experience and evidence of performance in a similar role.
Technical writing, client facing and communication skills.
Good communication skills.
Well organised, diligent, proactive, assertive and willing to work a mutually supportive environment.
