The Client:
Our client is a successful independent town planning consultancy based in Manchester. They provide client-focused services to developers, funders, landowners, operators, and end-users. They are active across a wide variety of asset classes with a large project portfolio that includes schemes across a number of sectors that include, but are not limited to: Industrial, Land Promotion, Mixed Use, Care/Extra Care, Leisure, Retail, Education and Town Centre Regeneration.
Job Role:
Planners in our client's business are important fee earners, playing a supporting role in driving planning projects forward to meet agreed client objectives. They provide input to planning strategies and draft planning advice through letters, planning statements and other reports. They coordinate planning submissions, working closely with clients and the wider project team. Planners are confident and rounded individuals able to contribute effectively at meetings, taking accurate notes and proactively addressing actions. They are trusted to accurately record time and manage workload and are willing and enthusiastic to assist in all aspects of supporting and promoting the business and developing their learning through CPD.
Key responsibilities include:
Planning due diligence and research / planning history and constraints
Devising planning strategy, drafting Planning Statements, Representations and other Reports
Project Management of client and project team
Ensuring all internal systems are maintained and up to date
Maintain client relations through regular contact and quality / consistency of advice
Attend meetings and prepare agendas and take accurate meeting notes
Collate and submit applications via the online Portal
Support with post submission negotiation with officers to determination
Prepare, manage and provide support in appeals and local plan examinations
Help raise brand awareness through networking and attending events
Understand importance of accurate time recording, budgets and assist with drafting invoices
Support business development including through input to website and social media platforms
Requirements:
Degree in Town Planning or related field.
Membership of the RTPI (or working towards final submission)
Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
