We are looking for a Design Manager which will focus on 2 complimentary areas, pre-construction and construction stages. The role purpose is:
Managing the information flow between the contractor and the consultant team to ensure the design information is to a suitable level of detail for the design to be enacted on site.
Working alongside a Senior Design Manager for the relevant scheme (if applicable) and will manage the day-to-day activities for any Design Coordinators allocated to the scheme.
Being an integral part of the site team working to resolve issues relating to design / construction.
Your main tasks:
Pre-Construction: your role plays a central part of the process with most of the opportunities being 2 stage tenders or negotiations where the design is developed as part of the process:
Analysing risks within the consultant design package.
Reviewing the design to ensure information is at the correct level and where design improvements can be made.
Establishing if the scheme as designed is technically and statutorily compliant (including the risks)
Construction: you will be a key member of the team working closely with the design, production, commercial teams and sub-contractors:
Driving the design process on site with the relevant stakeholders (production, sub-contractors, consultants etc.)
Managing design risk and opportunities.
Ensuring the design is compliant with Employers Requirements.
Supporting the rest of the Legendre team with technical input.
Managing Viewpoint and any trackers required.
Ensuring the consultant team have the relevant information the site in a timely manner
Assisting the Senior Design Manager in managing the consultant information release schedule / programme through the project.
Your profile:
You must be a team player.
Be proactive in your approach.
Be commercially aware or demonstrate a willingness to learn.
Be open to question and to challenge.
Have a client centric approach with the ability to support the delivery of the project.
Good communication skills, with an ability to form effective relationships with partners under time pressure.
Excellent IT Skills, including BIM and Microsoft Office.
Have a good technical knowledge and standards within the design process to construct a building. I.E. Building Regulation, warranty provider requirements etc.
Ideally, you will have experience in a similar role with a main contractor or be a project lead at a design consultancy looking to move into design management.
It is recommended that you are working towards Professional Membership and professional qualifications.
