Offshore Mechanical Engineer

London, England, United Kingdom

Do you love the Maldives? Seychelles? Bora Bora? What about the thousands of other places around the world burning diesel every day just so that they can keep the lights on?

Well, we do! That’s why we’re helping them.

Who we are

We’re AEON Energy, and our mission is to enable every community in the world to generate and store their own clean energy locally.

We have started with Islands.

With our small team, we hope to improve the lives of millions who live there by providing them access to reliable and renewable power. To achieve that, we are developing an innovative product that allows islands to generate energy from multiple sources without occupying a single square foot of land space.

We have designed two products and will shortly be deploying a full scale pilot of the coast of sunny Ungoofaaru. Additionally, because our goal is to help as many people as possible, we are also expanding to other locations and have a second pilot project in Fiji, starting in 2024.

The good news is that you can be a part of this. You can have the opportunity to travel to some of the world’s most beautiful places whilst working to save them.

What you will do

Your primary job will help us develop our offshore structures and associated manufacturing methods. You will be presented with many technical challenges and will need to leverage your knowledge and research skills to address them in a cost-effective way. From planning the assembly of a 20-tonne structure on a beach with minimal tooling to executing a wave basin testing campaign there will be no shortage of interesting problems to solve.[MC1] [AM2]

You’ll be expected to help us manage subcontractors, both in the UK and abroad, where we will have the support of both ours and the vast Energy Catalyst network.

Main Requirements

·       A Growth Mindset coupled with a can-do attitude and willingness to step outside of your comfort zone.

·      Passionate about small islands and the future of energy

·      Advanced degree (e.g. MEng, MSc) in Mechanical/Aeronautical/Civil Engineering, or [MC3] [AM4] other technically relevant fields

·      Previous experience working in Offshore Engineering

·      Have the Right to Work in the UK

·      Be based in London (or able to commute/relocate)

Preferred Candidates Would:

·      Have an understanding of fluid-solid interactions or general fluid dynamics

·      Have simulation experience with Matlab, Python and/or an FEM software

·      Have experience designing for resisting ultimate and fatigue loads

·      Have knowledge or experience in manufacturing

·      Be eager to work in a small team

·       Speak fluent Chinese

What you will get

·      £30,000 to £45,000 a year, plus share options.

·      A chance to travel the globe.

·      Be a part of building a company from an early stage.

·      Boost R&D skills.

·      Get a chance to participate in the development of a game-changing product.

·      Witness your thoughts and ideas deeply impact our work and company culture.

How to apply

Take a second to consider if this is really for you. We are a small team with limited resources and the odds are against us. As such, we all have to work long hours and cope with strict deadlines. We are making the world a better place, and every day counts.

If you think you’re up to it, simply send an email with your CV and a brief paragraph outlining your motivation to join the company and this project to [email protected].
