Utilities Manager - Development

The Utility Development Program Manager will lead various aspects of power diligence, acquisition, and delivery across Europe. This leader will ultimately be responsible for ensuring utility capacity is vetted, secured, and delivered at each campus to support data centers. This role will interface and collaborate with many critical stakeholders, including but not limited to: pre-development leads evaluating new properties; operations leaders managing load growth projections; sales teams coordinating customer demands; procurement teams engaging with power equipment vendors; and development team project leaders planning and building new data centers.
Responsibilities - other duties may be assigned:
Lead power due diligence for prospective sites
Submit power applications to and review power study results from utilities
Negotiate power contracts for new and expansion capacity, alongside the Energy Team
Create and Implement strategy to ensure timely delivery of power delivery to development sites as needed to support existing and future leases
Management of partners and consultants related to electrical substation design and construction
Manage schedule and reporting of milestones for all utility projects
Manage budgets and cost forecasting of utility projects, including construction and equipment
Foster relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to deliver utility developments, including QTS partners, power consultants, utilities, OEMs, EPCs, and equipment vendors
Procure substation long lead equipment, transformers, HV breakers, and MV switchgear
Procure and manage construction of multiple substation sites simultaneously
Deliver utility projects on-schedule, on-budget, and as-scoped
Track and report on status and schedule of power delivery timelines
Track and provide inputs to required utility metrics via various internal dashboards
Prepare executive updates and project update presentations for senior leadership
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, construction, or equivalent professional experience
Six or more years of medium/high voltage construction management
Six or more years or more years’ experience running multiple projects at the same time or related professional experience, with at least half in Europe
Knowledge of substation industry partners and transformer manufacturers
Be able to travel up to 50% of the time or as needed to support projects
Demonstrated experience working directly with executives and collaborating effectively across all levels of the organization
Desired Qualifications:
Five plus years of electrical substation construction, with at least half in Europe
Technical expertise in High and Medium Voltage Electrical Design or Construction
Experience leading due diligence on prospective large-scale power opportunities
Exposure to the power study and contracting process at various utilities
Experience managing large portfolio of work
Additional Skills:
Fluency in English required; fluency in other European languages strongly preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to independently manage deadlines and support staff
Ability to influence cross-discipline teams
Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations at a high growth company
Ability to prioritize, multitask, and deliver high quality work in tight timeframes
