Maths and Physics Tutor

West yorkshire, England, United Kingdom

Contract type: Full time, Fixed term until 01/05/2025

Location: Leeds, Leeds International Study Centre

Salary: Up to £42,335.07 per annum

We are seeking a qualified Maths and Physics Tutor to design and implement successful educational programs aimed at preparing international students for entry-level undergraduate studies at both the University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University. Additionally, the role involves providing support to students in their pursuit of meeting their academic progression requirements.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Plan and execute appropriate, effective and inclusive learning programmes through schemes of work

Plan teaching sessions which accommodate individualised learning using a variety of resources, including digital learning

Ensure a broad range of learning materials are available on the VLE for students to access and engage with, including self-directed tasks and activities that facilitate feedback and interaction

Apply the principles of learning and teaching to provide learning activities to meet curriculum requirements and the needs of all students

Select the relevant learning approaches and skill development to ensure students’ progress.

Apply the theories and principles of assessment including initial, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment

Use a variety of methods to check learning in lessons (formative assessment)

Ensure that interactive assessment activities are available to students through the VLE

Write summative assessments which appropriately measure the achievement of the learning outcomes of the programmes (including repeat assessments)

Prepare students for summative assessment through revision sessions and practice assessments

Engage in moderation of assessment materials and student work, including double marking, thorough and timely preparation of all relevant documentation for the external examiners, and participation in module assessment boards

Support students with individual target setting and revise these throughout the year during progress checks

Support students with action planning to improve academic performance and achieve aspirational targets

Be available to offer support to students as required (e.g. workshops, booster and revision classes and one-to-one feedback sessions)

Contribute to student progress reports in a clear and constructive manner

Demonstrate and update subject specialist knowledge to ensure the currency of specialist teaching

ABOUT YOU

Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Physics or related area (essential)

A relevant teaching qualification or post-graduate degree (desirable)

Experience of teaching in the Higher or Further Education sectors or of Leaving Certificate (Hons)/A-level (essential)

Experience of working with international students (desirable)
