Warrington is the largest town in Cheshire and it is famous for 'firsts'- from building Britain's first canal to opening the country's first public library.

Warrington has a population of over 198,000 people. Residing on the banks of the River Mersey, the town of Warrington is 16 miles east of the city of Liverpool and 19 miles west of the city of Manchester, making both cities convenient commutable destinations.

During the Industrial Revolution Warrington was a manufacturing town responsible for the manufacture of steel and textiles as well as being important within both the brewing and chemical industries. Warrington's location along the River Mersey was integral to the town's early economic growth.

Warrington has a very successful retail industry and its shopping centre is one of the largest in the North West. A multi million pound investment into Warrington's town centre has seen retail grow from strength to strength, creating many jobs in the town. The Golden Square shopping centre was refurbished and reopened in 2007 and is home to department stores such as Debenhams and Marks and Spencer's amongst many others. The town has many shopping streets and Swedish retailer IKEA opened its first UK store in Warrington.

Warrington provides many job opportunities for its residents, especially in the distribution and technology industries. The town of Warrington maintains excellent transport links with the rest of the country. It has two railway stations and an extensive bus network. The town is also situated near to the M62, M56 and M6 motorways.

For those wishing to explore culture in the town, there are a diverse collection of events and performance, including live concerts, theatre, variety shows, cabaret and comedy acts. Parr Hall is the town's premier venue for live music, while Pyramid is a leading centre for the arts.

The town centre is host to a wide selection of clubs, pubs and bars to suit all tastes, ranging from the hip and trendy to the traditional tavern. Whether you're into house, hip hop, indie, rock or jazz, you'll always find somewhere you'll love.

Warrington also has its own museum and art gallery, a concert hall and an arts centre. Warrington has large areas of open space including nature reserves and parks for residents to enjoy. The town of Warrington also offers a wide range of leisure pursuits including Go karting, paintballing and golf, as well as having a cinema and a bowling alley.

Warrington is well-known for the Warrington Wolves rugby league club, one of the premier teams in Europe.
