Preston is a city within the county of Lancashire; a relatively new city, Preston was given its city status in 2002 and has a population of over 130,000 people.
Preston is a vibrant city to live and work in. It has 2 main under cover shopping centres, Fishergate and St George's along with a range of bars, restaurants and nightlife. Preston has many areas of natural beauty with over 160 miles of public footpaths. Places of interest within the city include museums, parks, gardens and nature reserves.
The River Ribble runs through the city of Preston and the Preston Docklands, known as Riversway, has also become a site of redevelopment in recent years. The creation of office space within this area has given rise to many new business opportunities within the city.
One of Preston's key areas of employment lies within the aerospace industry and Preston is home to the large employer, BAE Systems; a global defence and security company that specialises in products and services for the air, land and naval services. The financial sector is also well represented within Preston, and other sectors that create jobs in the city include the retail and haulage sectors.
The University of Central Lancashire is situated in Preston and has a very large student population of over 30,000 students. The university offers a diverse range of courses including journalism, dentistry, tourism and the arts, to name just a few.
