Milton Keynes. Cocrete cows.

Milton Keynes is a large town in Buckinghamshire with a population of approximately 184,000 people. Milton Keynes is one of a number of locations in the Southeast that become part of Governmental plans to relieve housing congestion in London. In the 1960s it was decided that a number of new towns should be created that would be self sufficient and offer those who wished to work in the surrounding cities, such as London, Birmingham, Cambridge, Oxford, etc, the opportunity to live in a central location and commute out, so as not to congest the largely populated cities further.

Milton Keynes functions well as a purpose built town; the roads were built with a grid-like structure that is intersected by a large number of roundabouts, making the town very well suited for cars and public transport. The focus on public transport in Milton Keynes ensures that everyone is within walking distance of the town's bus stops.

As well as having excellent transportation links through Milton Keynes and out to the rest of the UK, Milton Keynes also has large areas of greenery and natural merit, in spite the overwhelming perception that Milton Keynes is a 'Concrete Jungle'. There are over 20 million trees planted in Milton Keynes, acres of parkland and open spaces.

Milton Keynes has a wide variety of employment opportunities for its residents and it is not a necessity to commute out of the town for work, in spite of its central location to towns such as London, Leicester, Oxford and Cambridge. Major industries for employment within Milton Keynes include the service and manufacturing sectors which create a large amount of jobs for residents.

Milton Keynes has a diverse range of leisure facilities and entertainment venues for residents of the town. Milton Keynes Bowl has a capacity of 65,000 people and has played host to some of the biggest names in the music industry from Foo Fighters to Take That. Milton Keynes also has a large shopping centre, The Centre: MK which contains at least three major department stores as well as 240 other stores. Milton Keynes has a theatre and a public art gallery and is home to pieces of conceptual art including the Concrete Cows sculpture, created by artist Liz Leyh.
