Liverpool Waterfront

Liverpool is a city in Merseyside in the North West of England. It has two universities, The University of Liverpool, and a polytechnic given university status in 1991- the Liverpool John Moores University. Liverpool has its own airport which was renamed after one of their most famous residents- Beatles member John Lennon, in 2001. Liverpool also maintains excellent transport links through their metro system, the Merseyrail, which runs throughout the city. Liverpool has two famous football clubs, both in the British Premier League- Liverpool FC, and Everton FC.

Liverpool's economic expansion in the early 19th Century was due to its prominence as a centre for trade and its port was responsible for bringing in about 40% of the world's trade which came through Liverpool's docks.

Liverpool is the home of the Beatles, who are icons of the Liverpool music scene. Their many appearances at the Cavern Club in Liverpool have made the venue a tourist hotspot as people come to pay homage to the famous rock and roll group. Liverpool's Cavern Club is also the location in which Brian Epstein was first introduced to The Beatles and thus began his relationship as manager to one of the most famous groups in Liverpool's and Britain's history.

In 2008 Liverpool was named Europe's Capital of Culture 08. The scheme highlights the cultural life of those diverse cities across Europe who receive the accolade. Liverpool has enjoyed great benefits from its year in the cultural spotlight, and it was reported to have boosted Liverpool's economy by over 800 million, with the increase in tourism to the city and this increased tourist demand thus impacted heavily on job opportunities in Liverpool, making the city a great place to live and work.

Liverpool has a large number of job opportunities within the service sectors both in the public and private spheres. Liverpool is home to a number of governmental offices including parts of the NHS, Revenue and Customs and Identity and Passport Services. Due to the ever growing popularity of tourism within Liverpool, there are plenty of jobs in Liverpool within the entertainment industries in bars, restaurants and hotels. In 2008 the postcode of L1 in Liverpool underwent some major regeneration projects which included the introduction of a brand new shopping centre within Liverpool, Liverpool One. This created further job opportunities in Liverpool, and it is thought that other parts of the city will also benefit from ongoing regeneration projects for many years to come. More information on Liverpool can be found at the Liverpool City Council Website.
