Horsham is a market town in the county of Sussex. It has a population of over 55,000 people. The town of Horsham is just 18.5 miles North West of Brighton and 26 miles north east of Chichester. Horsham is also close to the capital and the town is located 31 miles south west of London.
Horsham is a commuter town for the surrounding areas including London and Brighton. There are also many employment opportunities within the town itself. It is home to insurance company RSA Insurance Group which has its registered office within the town. It is also the home of animal welfare charity the RSPCA, who have a £16 million headquarters near Horsham.
Employment within the town of Horsham comes from a variety of sectors including the pharmaceutical industry, video games development, insurance, research and development, and many more. Horsham is also the base of video games developer, The Creative Assembly, the creators of the Total War strategy games.
In the centre of Horsham is an area known as the Carfax. This is an area where four roads meet in the middle of town, and is home to a bandstand, a Saturday market, shopping areas, pubs and statues to commemorate victims of both world wars. The centre of town is also home to a controversial water sculpture, the Rising Universe Fountain, which was erected to commemorate the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. Based on a design planned for a fountain in Cambridge that was later rejected; it's design, water usage and expense has all come under fire from a number of Horsham's residents.
Horsham has a mainly pedestrianised retail centre. There are many employment opportunities within the retail industry within the town. Swan Walk is the town's shopping centre, but there is also a shopping area and public square known as the Forum, along with other shopping streets at the centre of town.
