Gloucester is a port town in the south west of England, within the county of Gloucestershire. Gloucester lies close to the Welsh border and has a population of over 118,000 people. The city of Bristol resides to the north east of Gloucester and is just over 30 miles from the town.
Service industries lie at the heart of employment within Gloucester as well as the financial and business sectors which also provide many jobs within the town. Gloucester Cathedral is the burial place of King Edward II and is an excellent example of medieval architecture. Many scenes from the Harry Potter franchise were filmed in the cloisters of Gloucester Cathedral. There are many buildings from the Tudor and medieval period in Gloucester and the town retains a mix of modern and historical architecture.
The town of Gloucester has heritage within the aerospace industry and played a significant part in the creation of the jet engine, as well as other aircrafts.
Gloucester is overlooked by the Cotswold Hills. It has many areas of natural beauty and a wide selection of historical and cultural attractions on offer. The historic dockland is a site home to many museums and was the site for the renovation of fifteen Victorian warehouses.
