Are you someone who likes to get creative? 


The job of a chef can be very rewarding and creative, with the opportunity to stamp your own personality on your dishes. However, being on your feet all day can be hard work, so devotion and commitment is a must for this industry. 


Alongside working well within a team you should also be able to handle huge amounts of pressure such as; time keeping, multi-tasking while making sure all the food served is of the highest standards. 


You’ll need to work hard to balance your work and home life, so this job is not for the faint of heart.


What are the responsibilities of a chef?


Responsibilities may include preparing dishes, ordering supplies, supervising a team and training/hiring new staff. 


Within the role of a chef you must be able to arrange daily menus according to the availability of ingredients and craft your own original dishes, or put your twist on traditional favourites, so being adaptable is a must.


What makes a good chef?

You’ll need a passion for food and cooking, a love for making your own dishes and experimenting

and the ability to balance lots of things at once.


What’s the T&Cs? 


This industry is not your standard 9am — 5pm job. You could start as early as 4am and finish as late as 11pm. Hours are normally quite long for chefs, with the working environment being stressful during busy periods, which hopefully will be most of the time!


Do I need any experience? / What qualifications do I need?


While many chefs simply learn on the job, others have several qualifications under their belt, such as completing a formal training program, City & Guilds or BTEC qualifications. The more qualifications and experience you have, the more employable you will be.
