Green Jobs

As we begin a new decade, there’s certain things we all wish we could leave behind in 2019.

The planet’s ongoing major issues, including; air pollution, climate change, and natural disasters, continue to dominate the news agenda and debate from all sides.  And these concerns are not going to go away.

However, the growing sector of “green jobs” is a result of this recognition and the need to make positive changes.

What is a green job?

Green jobs are jobs that contribute to preserve or restore the environment.  They might be in traditional sectors such as manufacturing and construction, or in new, emerging sectors such as renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Green Jobs help by...

-Improving energy and raw materials efficiency

-Limiting greenhouse gas emissions

-Minimising waste and pollution

-Protecting and restoring ecosystems

-Supporting adaptation to the effects of climate change

And recent stats by ONS have shown an increase in the popularity and demand of jobs in this industry:

-The UK low carbon and renewable energy (LCRE) economy grew by 6.8% to £44.5 billion in 2017, from £41.7 billion in 2016.

-The number of employees working directly in the LCRE economy in the UK was relatively stable at 209,500 full-time equivalents (FTE) in 2017 compared with 208,300 in 2016.
