When 5 o’clock hits, many people shut down and head home for the day. They try to completely shut off their work brain and keep their job separate from their personal life.

And rightfully so. It’s important to strike a balance between work and home.

While we are getting much better at talking about and understanding the effects of personal wellness on our lives, many people ignore how general wellbeing can impact work performance as well.

Your emotional and physical states, environment, finances and so much more are all part of what makes you able to function at the top of your game.

Everybody has good and bad days, but if you’re permanently down on the wellbeing scale, you’ll be in danger of long periods of low mood making life’s tough times even harder.

1. Keep your mind sharp

One of the subsets of personal wellness is spiritual wellness. This does not mean that you have to be religious, but rather that you exhibit qualities like mindfulness and a sense of purpose.

By focusing your thoughts and understanding which path you choose to follow, you’ll keep your mind sharp.

Doing so will help you know what you want, pay attention to the task at hand, and operate with a clear mind.

Tip:  Learn how to meditate.  Starting your morning with meditation will help you relax the body and the mind, setting your focus for the rest of the day.

2. Look sharp

Staying on top of your personal grooming will help you look your best and this will be noticed by colleagues.

Following a proper grooming regime, adopting a skincare routine, and taking care of your hair and general appearance will ensure that you look and feel confident. 

When you present yourself as “put together,” you give off vibes that you are in control of your life. While there are still plenty of other ways to gain respect, improving your appearance is sure to help.

When you’re feeling confident, nobody can get in your way.  Everyone around you will recognize when you are acting more confident, and it will reflect in your work.

4. Less stress

Another interesting facet of personal wellness is financial wellness. From student loan debts to mortgages, finances can put a tremendous amount of stress in your life and strife in your relationships.

When you go into work with less stress, it’s almost a guarantee that you will be more productive, happier, and fun to be around.
