A law degree or equivalent is essential for those wishing to practice law and high academic performance is important. For paralegals, agencies often require six months' relevant work experience in addition to experience in administration, document management and research.

Employers are looking for candidates that show an interest in their kind of law, commercial awareness, good people skills, attention to detail and analytical skills, research and writing skills plus debating or public speaking experience if you want to be a barrister.
