Management is a huge career area with a vast number of roles available. Whether managing projects or teams, the main purposes of management are overseeing an organisation's operations or directing individual departments.

Who can I work for?

You can find management roles in every organisation across the board. Whatever sector you wish to work in there will be some kind of managerial role.

Where and when can I work?

People that succeed in managing mega projects can travel the world. Working hours in this area are different depending on which sector your management role is in. If you are managing mega projects, you will work long hours, but if you are managing a small team, there will be less overtime work required.

What can I earn?

General managers can earn from £25,000-£70,000 depending on their experience; managers of major sites and corporations can earn upwards of £50,000.

What are the benefits?

Due to the number of responsibilities a manager has, pay the rewards can be very lucrative.

Are there chances of promotion?

With so many different avenues available to management individuals, there are always opportunities for promotion.

What will I be responsible for?

Your responsibilities will be dependent on the type of company you are working for. General managers in small companies would manage the company's expenditure, implement change when needed, work with other department heads and be involved in the hiring and firing of staff. Whereas mega project managers coordinate whole projects from contractors, to people on the ground, to suppliers and builders.

Do I need any experience?

Having a degree in a business-related field and a MBA make it easier to succeed in management though experience is the most important asset.

What attributes are needed?

You must have excellent multi-tasking, organisation, communication and leadership skills alongside strong industry and finance knowledge. You must also be dependable, resourceful and amenable.
