A construction site supervisor, or site manager, is responsible for running the whole or part of a construction site, making sure that a scheme is completed safely, on time and within budget.

Where and when can I work?
The role is mostly site-based and you will be expected to work outdoors in all weathers. Your schedule will be dictated by your current project and may require long, demanding hours. You will regularly travel off-site to see clients and project locations.

Responsibilities include making preparations before work begins and supervising the building work once it is started. You will ensure safety measures have been implemented and you will often work with construction management software to organise efficient delivery and storage of construction material. Finally, the work will involve keeping the client informed during construction.
Do I need any experience?
Site supervisors usually have in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the industry. A degree in construction engineering management, building studies, building engineering and building technology is also highly beneficial.

You will need to be a good problem solver and possess excellent interpersonal skills as well as be able to manage staff and sub-contractors.
