Cleaning Manager Jobs

A cleaning manager or supervisor has overall responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day cleaning operation of a school, office, hotel or residential property.

Who can I work for?

You could work for cleaning firms that are contracted out to various businesses, schools or homes or be employed directly, especially at hotels.

Where and when can I work?

Cleaners in schools and businesses will work either before or after the typical hours of a working/school day. This can mean early starts and late evenings. As a manager, you may be required to work extra hours to oversee deliveries of stock, training of staff and attend meetings.

What can I earn?

The average salary for a cleaning manager is around £18,000 but you could earn up to £20,000 in some establishments.

What are the benefits?

The hours can be flexible, giving you plenty of freedom both in and out of work.

Are there chances of promotion?

You could move up to become a facilities manager or premises manager, with more responsibility for the site as a whole and a larger pay packet.

What will I be responsible for?

Overall responsibility for cleaning operations including identifying the number of cleaning staff needed to maintain a clean environment and managing their hours, within a budget. Monitoring stock levels and placing orders, plus training staff and ensuring Health and Safety procedures are followed. You may also be involved in the recruitment process for new staff.

Do I need any experience?

A solid background in the cleaning industry is essential and management experience is preferable. A relevant NVQ qualification would also be beneficial to your application.

What attributes are needed?

Strong organisational skills and flexibility will help with the planning aspect of the role. Numerical skills will see you through when it comes to facilitating timesheets and stock ordering and good people skills are required for working with all levels of staff.
