Wolverhampton is a city within the West Midlands. Wolverhampton was granted its city status as part of the Millennium celebrations in 2000. It has a population of over 230,000 people. Key industries for employment in Wolverhampton are within engineering and aerospace, but Wolverhampton also has a large amount of job opportunities in the service sector. Other key employers in the city include the University of Wolverhampton, which is home to over 23,000 students, Marston's Brewery, as well as a high volume of job vacancies to be found in the retail industry from high street names such as House of Fraser.

Wolverhampton is a large centre for retail and is a popular shopping destination. Wolverhampton has two large covered shopping centres, the Mander Centre and the Wulfrun Centre, along with a range of outdoor and indoor markets that have been trading since the 13th Century. Other leisure activities within Wolverhampton include Wolverhampton Racecourse, a popular horse racing venue. Wolverhampton Racecourse was also the first floodlit racetrack in Britain.

Wolverhampton's central location means that it is within easy reach of the rest of the UK. The trains run regular rail services to surrounding cities including London, Manchester and Birmingham. Wolverhampton has excellent road transport links and easily accessible motorways include the M6, M5 and the M54, which are all within around 7 miles of the city centre.
