Coventry Cathedral
Coventry Cathedral

Coventry is a city in the West Midlands; it is located around 20 miles east of Birmingham and has a population of over 300,000 people. It is geographically further than any other city in Britain from the coast, which must be unpopular with residents on sunny bank holiday weekends!

Coventry was the only city in Britain to lose a Cathedral in the bombings that took place during World War II. The only parts of the cathedral that remain are the outer walls and spire of St Michael's Cathedral, and the spire retains its stature of being one of the tallest cathedral spire's in England, standing at 303 feet. Coventry suffered greatly during the war and an incredibly large amount of damage meant that many buildings had to be rebuilt following the Luftwaffe air raids on the 14th November 1940, which became known as the 'Coventry Blitz'. It was one of the most affected areas of Britain at this time.

Historically, Coventry's primary industries were in the manufacturing of cars and cycles. Recently however, Coventry has become a centre for business services, finance sectors and research & development companies, amongst other things, which create job opportunities all across Coventry.

Coventry has two universities; Coventry University and also the University of Warwick which resides on the outskirt of Coventry.

Coventry has good rail and road links with the rest of the UK and is a commutable distance from Birmingham and London amongst other locations. There are two airports within reach of Coventry, Birmingham International Airport and Coventry Airport.
