St Albans is a city in southern Hertfordshire. It has a population of over 64,000 people. The city of St Albans is situated just 22 miles north of Central London, making it a convenient distance for those wishing to commute into the capital. St Albans is however known for being one of the most expensive places to live in Britain.

St Albans has many cultural and leisure attractions. The city has many theatres which include Maltings Arts Theatre, the Abbey Theatre and the Sandpit Theatre, amongst many others. There are two museums within St Albans, the Museum of St Albans which focuses on the local history of the city and surrounding area, and also the Verulamium Museum, which explores life in Roman Britain.

The Cathedral and Abbey Church of Saint Alban is a popular visitor destination in the city of St Albans. It is believed to have been built on the site of the martyrdom of Saint Alban, the first British, Christian martyr, and its construction began in 1077. St Albans has a varied mix of architectural styles and this, coupled with its proximity to London, has made it a popular filming destination which has been used in television programmes and films.

St Albans' Clock Tower is one of just two medieval belfries in England. It was built between 1403 and 1412 and gives picturesque views of the Abbey and the surrounding city. There is plenty to do within St Albans and the city has many things on offer including shops, restaurants, theatres, museums and parks, with much more besides.

The City and District of St Albans has a strong local economy and it employs a highly skilled workforce. St Albans has excellent rail, road and airport links and many employers see it as an attractive place to be. St Albans also benefits being close to the University of Hertfordshire, which is located close by at Hatfield, it is one of the country's leading business orientated universities.

Well-known firms such as Deloitte, AECOM, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Premier Foods and Aon Hewitt all have large office bases in the area. St Albans also has many distribution industries such as the Sainsbury's Retail Distribution Centre in the district of London Colney which employs over 600 staff.
