Frequent buses connect residents to surrounding destinations including Plymouth, Lyme Regis and Weymouth. Exeter also has two main railway stations which give easy access to the rest of the UK. Exeter also has its own airport, Exeter International Airport towards the east of the city.

Exeter has its own University, the University of Exeter, which has two campuses within the city. The University has over 15,000 students studying there. Exeter is also one of the four main sites of the University of Plymouth. Exeter is a compact city with the shopping split into different quarters, there is a main high street with national high street names. A short walk from the high street you will find small intimate boutiques with specialist items.

Exeter is a cultural city. It has theatres including the Northcott Theatre, which forms part of the university campus. The theatre hosts its own open air Shakespeare production annually in the grounds of Rougemont Castle. Exeter also has its own museum, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum located within the city centre.
