Exeter is a historic city in the county of Devon. It has a growing population of over 119,000 people. The city of Devon resides approximately 37 miles northeast of Plymouth. Exeter is the most south-westerly Roman fortified settlement in Britain.

Exeter provides many employment opportunities for residents of the city. The three largest employers within the city of Exeter are the University of Exeter, Devon County Council and the Met Office; the main weather forecasting organisation for the UK.

Exeter maintains excellent transport links with the rest of the UK. It is well connected by road via the M3, M4 and M5 amongst others. Frequent buses connect residents to surrounding destinations including Plymouth, Lyme Regis and Weymouth. Exeter also has two main railway stations which give easy access to the rest of the UK. Exeter also has its own airport, Exeter International Airport towards the east of the city.

Exeter has its own University, the University of Exeter, which has two campuses within the city. The University has over 15,000 students studying there. Exeter is also one of the four main sites of the University of Plymouth. Exeter is a compact city with the shopping split into different quarters, there is a main high street with national high street names. A short walk from the high street you will find small intimate boutiques with specialist items.

Exeter is a cultural city. It has theatres including the Northcott Theatre, which forms part of the university campus. The theatre hosts its own open air Shakespeare production annually in the grounds of Rougemont Castle. Exeter also has its own museum, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum located within the city centre. Exeter Cathedral houses one of the most important literary documents in Anglo-Saxon literature, The Exeter Book. This original manuscript is one of four which contains nearly all surviving poetry in Old English.
