Slough is a town in the county of Berkshire which lies around 24 miles outside of London. Slough has a population of around 119,000 people.
The town of Slough has expanded over many years to incorporate many of its surrounding villages. Slough has undergone significant redevelopment within the town centre, and there has been an increase in the building of residential housing and office space throughout the town. The redevelopments, which will continue to take place over a number of years, will aim to increase job opportunities in Slough by creating over 4,000 new jobs.
Slough was home to one of the earliest business parks in the UK, the Slough Trading Estate, which was founded in 1920. There are over 600 buildings and is estimated to have a working population of around 20,000 people in the area alone.
Slough is easily commutable to London but for those wishing to work in the town there are plenty of employment opportunities. Mars, inc. is based in Slough and the Mars bar was developed and created in Slough over 70 years ago.
Slough is a major business centre within the South East of England. Slough provides large scale employment in the IT and technology industries. Mobile technology company Research in Motion has its European head office in Slough and O2 also has headquarters within the town. There are also offices for large companies including Nintendo, Amazon.co.uk and Ferrari, Mercedes and Fiat.
