Who is going to be the film maker for Video CV's

The popularity of Video CVs is growing quickly – video is the domestic web boom flourishing at the moment. This latest development poses many questions such as:

How are they going to be used by the recruiter?
How useful will it be to watch the video?
What new data management problems will they bring?
What new HR legislation will have to come in?

Some people I was talking to recently felt the job seeking public would not be up for videos – don’t you believe it, video is the buzz, specially for younger generations. Go to youtube and other video content websites and you can find many CV videos (more popular with our typically more extravert friends the other side of the Atlantic).  More and more job seekers are getting ahead with their Video CV.

Considering the speed of uptake of video creation by internet users, I expect to see CV Videos mainstream within 24 months.

As well as providing a challenge for the recruitment market this will create a new specialised service layer for Professional CV writers i.e. The Professional CV Video-er

Already a number of companies offer exactly this service which will grow quickly, unlike the written CV which is very easily editable remotely via Email etc the creation of the Video CV needs the candidate in front of the camera. I know this could be done via webcam, scripts written then edited remotely but the real opportunity will be for local business with a high street shop where a candidate can walk in and be filmed.

As company recruiters start to realise the benefits of watching a video of potential candidates it will be the obvious service for high street recruitment agencies to offer. This will be a potential new revenue stream. I cannot wait to see what great and helpful developments the industry will promote.
